East Hills Moravian Church

Wednesday Evenings  Holy Week Readings  Easter Sunday

Lenten Opportunities

Our Lenten observances at East Hills will begin with a traditional Ash Wednesday worship service at
7:00 P.M. on February 17th. Each of the following five weeks we will hold a Lenten dinner at 6:00 P.M.
followed by a brief Vespers worship and discussion on segments of the film "The Ultimate Gift".
This film, based on a book by Jim Stovall, tells the story of Jason Stevens.

When his wealthy grandfather dies...he...anticipates a big inheritance. Instead, his grandfather has devised
a crash course on life with twelve tasks - or "gifts" - designed to challenge Jason in improbable ways,
sending him on a journey of self-discovery and toeing him to determine what is most important in life:
money or happiness.

There will also be a program for young children.

Lent comes to a climax during Holy Week when we will hold services based on the Moravian book
"Readings for Holy Week" Sunday through Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. On Maundy Thursday
we will observe Holy Communion at the same time. Good Friday we will have a
reading service and Tenebrae at 7:00 P.M.

Holy Week Opportunities

To mark and remember the final week of our Savior's earthly life,
gather for devotional reading services at 7:00 P.M. each Holy Week evening,
Sunday, March 28th through Friday, April 2nd. Together we'll remember Jesus'
parting words and actions, culminating in the Maundy Thursday Communion
and the Good Friday Tenebrae worship.

Holy Week Readings - 7:00 P.M.

During Holy Week, the days between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, Moravians gather for
worship each evening to read and listen about the events of the final days of Jesus' earthly life.
These "Readings for Holy Week" help us to relive the most remarkable days in the
history of the world, days that will help us to understand the full meaning of Easter.
