Point of Privilege:

From the Mind of Pastor Chris Johnson

An old Broadway show tune voices that "the rhythm of life is a powerful beat." If that's true, then we're about to pick up the tempo as we collectively segue from an andante summer to an accelerando fall.

September is a transition month. For some it's time to resume routines temporarily aban-doned in exchange for blissful days at The Shore or The Campground or The Mediterra-nean or wherever we were so blessed to have recently recreated. For some it's time to begin new adventures-new classes and new schools bringing new expectations and new possibilities. As the show tune describes, the rhythm of life "puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet."

The rhythm of church life follows a faster metronome this month as well, especially begin-ning with Rally Day on September 12. Rally Day marks the official return of the congrega-tion to full-speed programming. Worship times shift to 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to accom-modate Sunday School in between, and Sunday School launches its new season that day with a lively celebration for all generations in the Family Center at 9:45. Children, youth and adults are invited for a morning full of lively music and fantastic prizes, plus break out sessions for each set of teachers and students. (A complete guide describing all Christian Education options will be arriving in the mail very soon.) And don't miss out on the BAM (Bethlehem Area Moravians) Picnic later that day. See details elsewhere in this newsletter.

Other activities will soon be underway as well. Choir rehearsals, Inquirers' opportunities, Nursery School, Bible study groups, fellowship meetings, Confirmation classes. . . . Keep reading the weekly Sunday bulletins and subsequent monthly editions of me Star stay up to speed.

And speaking of speed, all musicians know that when a tempo change is coming up, it's extremely important to watch baton-the hand of the director-or the music risks falling apart. The same is true for the rhythm of life. When we come to the tempo changes, it's also crucial to pay attention to the intentions of the Director. September is the perfect time to swivel your attention back to God. Get involved, either again or for the first time. "May the Lord direct yow hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance." (2 Thessalonians 3:5)

Tapping my toes with you,
